Mass Mentoring Provides Video Pair for National Mentoring Month
November 12, 2009: Mass Mentoring Partnership in Boston — an affiliate of MENTOR — submitted the mentor/mentee pair that was chosen for the National Mentoring Month 2010 ReelPeople video.
ReelPeople is a project of the Harvard School of Public Health, one of the three national partners for National Mentoring Month, along with MENTOR and the Corporation for National and Community Service. ReelPeople features one mentoring pair each year in a national television public service announcement, chosen through nominations from the mentoring field.
Featured for 2010 are Deborah and Becky of Fall River, MA. Their two-and-a-half-year relationship came to the attention of Mass Mentoring through a local mentoring organization — the Family Service Association's Big Friends Little Friends.
Mass Mentoring Partnership's President and CEO David Shapiro said, "Great matches are products of great mentoring programs. Deb and Becky are a prime example of this. We are proud to have their story featured nationally and proud to have Big Friends Little Friends as a part of our program network in Massachusetts."
"Becky considers Deb to be her confidante," said Mary Vasconcellos, case manager and recruitment specialist for Big Friends Little Friends. "And Deb has said that she can't imagine Becky not being in her life. They both cherish the time they spend together doing things they enjoy, such as creating their own pizzas, going to the mall, attending special events and almost anything in between."
The ReelPeople Project is one of many promotional materials being distributed for National Mentoring Month. To see the video and learn more about National Mentoring Month 2010, visit www.nationalmentoringmonth.org. For more information about mentoring, visit www.mentoring.org.
